Oscar netted his second goal in as many games to give Chelsea an early lead at Stamford Bridge. The diminutive Brazilian, who replaced the injured Ramires in the only change from last weekend’s draw at Manchester City, struck the winner against Bolton in Wednesday’s Capital One Cup clash and slotted home in the seventh minute against Villa.Willian was the architect, forcing a save from Villa keeper Brad Guzan before squaring it for his unmarked compatriot. It was the first chance of a fairly low-key opening, which has seen Chelsea probe while Villa look to hit on the counter-attack.Willian also went close as he outpaced Nathan Baker but the defender did enough to deflect the lively midfielder’s effort into the side netting.Villa’s best chance of the first 20 minutes came when Chelsea failed to clear a corner and Aly Cissokho hooked just wide of the post.Diego Costa, starting despite ongoing concerns over a niggling injury, has largely been a peripheral figure, with most of Chelsea’s attacks going through the two Brazilians, Eden Hazard and the supporting Branislav Ivanovic. It will be an East Coast version of the successful ReadWrite Real-Time Web Summit we held in Mountain View last October. Earlier this month we were in Mountain View again for the ReadWrite Mobile Summit, which also rocked. Our events bring together a few hundred of the smartest, most interesting developers, businesspeople and visionaries in key emerging areas of the Internet industry. They follow a format that is unorthodox but deeply thought provoking (as that’s how we like to roll) called the Unconference. This expert-moderated but participant-led event format makes ReadWriteWeb events some of the most high-value in the industry. You don’t have to take our word for it, though. Check out what some attendees have said:These events end up changing peoples’ work in big ways. The Google engineer who transformed the Google Feed API into a real-time push to the browser (see our scoop about it this week) decided to do so after being inspired by our last event. We’ve spoken with at least one real-time startup that secured high-profile investor backing after making connections at that event as well. Here’s a few thoughts about our last real-time web event:John Borthwick, CEO of Betaworks: “The RWW Real-Time Web Summit was excellent – friggin’ great in fact. I hauled a handful members of my team across country for it and my only regret was that I didn’t bring more of them. I’m looking forward to the next one.”Laura Fitton, founder of venture-funded Twitter app directory OneFourty:“There were a lot of investors there and it was a great dialogue between startups and investors. The unconference format was great because it got away from the bogus who-is in the real-time Web, and made it who-wants-to-be. You didn’t have to be big and influential to get your ideas across – if it was a good idea then it got heard. It wasn’t just Twitter, it was many things real time, defined pretty expansively.”That event was great, but our next event may have been even better. Here are a few thoughts shared by participants in that one.Michael Nguyen, patent lawyer at Fenwick & West: “I loved it so much, it was probably one of the most participatory, engaging and thought provoking experiences I’ve ever had at a conference. And as a lawyer I go to lots of them.” Violet Blue, sex educator and author: “It was the best best best event I’ve been to in years, and I mean it. To be frank, I almost left ten minutes after I arrived, thinkingthat I was completely out of place. Turns out I was exactly in the right place all along. I left feeling completely energized about media, innovation, women in tech, new social models, and have so many new ideas about what I want to do next and what I want to get involved in. What I really didn’t expect was to walk away with a pretty clear picture of what the future of mobile media (and social media) looks like. Now I’m staring at invites to keynote at a couple of tech events this year and hoping they’re a fraction of the win that was the RWW Mobile Summit.”Ted Morgan, CEO of Skyhook Wireless (the company that powers wifi location tracking in the iPhone):“The ReadWriteWeb Mobile Summit was a fantastic event to interact with all the key players in the mobile world during an intense day of participant driven sessions.”Phil Hendrix, analyst at the Institute for Mobile Markets Research: “The topics that were suggested were very useful and the discussions themselves were quite interesting. We had a good mix of individuals who were contributing different perspectives, there was good back and forth that made the discussions very productive. Another highlight was the Speed Geeking demo hour. Even though they were compressed, 5 minutes or so, that was really just right – great format, the selection of companies was good. Durring the hour there were 8 or 9 companies. It was a great experience, well worth it. Unconventional format, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I registered. They assured me it would be a productive day and indeed it was. I was delighted to come out and spend the day and would certainly do it again.”Does this sound good or what? The Odisha government has decided to intensify highway patrolling after identifying five districts as major cattle transport corridors.Cattle are being transported to West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana through Odisha’s Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput districts.During a recent inspection by a team of the Animal Welfare Board of India, it was decided that the Home and Commerce departments would set up police check posts at major entry points along the inter-State border, create control rooms to receive complaints regarding illegal trafficking or movement of cattle and raise awareness on animal welfare laws.Odisha has also enacted the Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1960, in order to prohibit illegal slaughter of cows.According to the team, although cow slaughter is banned under the Act, effective steps should be taken to stop killing of cows on festive occasions in the State. The police were asked to ensure that Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Transport of Animal on Foot) Rules-2001 was complied with. “There is a provision of veterinary doctors certifying that each animal transported is in fit condition and not suffering from infectious, contagious, parasitic diseases and has been vaccinated against such diseases,” the inspection team said. The meeting resolved to follow Standard Operating Procedure issued by the Director General of Police. The SOP says one police officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police is to be appointed as the nodal officer.

CNET/Mark Serrels Powercast wants to solve one of the biggest problems with the Nintendo Switch, and that makes me very happy.I consider the Nintendo Switch one of the most convenient game consoles I’ve ever owned. You can play games on the go, before falling asleep in bed, on public transport. It’s a console designed to filter into the gaps of a busy life, with one exception: the damned Joy-Con controllers. I have this issue weekly. I want to play, say Mario Kart 8 or Smash Bros. Ultimate, with my family. I need three or four Joy-Cons (aka Nintendo Switch controllers). The ones already attached to the Nintendo Switch are good to go because, unless you own an accessory, that’s the only way Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons charge. My spare Joy-Cons, however, have no battery. That means you’re pretty much screwed — unless you have Powercast’s Wireless Charging Grips. These things are awesome. I tried them out at CES 2019, and I love them. $289 Charge your Nintendo Switch over-the-air $299 See It Nintendo See it $309 They work using Powercast’s over-the-air energy tech. A rectangular cube literally sends energy through the air using RF energy, which is converted to DC power using a receiver chip inside the Nintendo Switch grip. The energy stored is used to charge the controllers themselves. What that means, essentially, is you can play Nintendo Switch while your controller charges, potentially until the heat death of the universe. It’s a great solution. There are a few issues here. The range is short-ish. In a press release, Powercast says it’s two feet. In the video above, you can see I got a little bit farther, but it was hard to confirm whether the controller was actually still charging at that distance. There are other charging grips on the market — Nintendo has an official one but it requires cables. Powercast’s solution seems better to me, particularly since I enjoy attaching the Joy-Cons to some sort of grip while playing the Nintendo Switch docked on TV. I’d rather do that without a cable.Powercast is saying the Wireless Charging Grips will be available in the third quarter in the US and Canada, with other territories coming shortly after. No word on price yet. Arizona Senator John McCain says he opposes the latest Republican effort to repeal Obamacare. Photo: AFPUS Senator John McCain Friday announced his opposition to the latest Republican attempt to replace Barack Obama’s signature health care law, likely dooming the repeal effort. It is the second time in two months that he has defied his party and president Donald Trump over efforts to replace the Affordable Care Act, often referred to as “Obamacare,” which has long been in Republicans’ sights.“I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal,” McCain said of the bill proposed by fellow Republican senators Lindsey Graham and Bill Cassidy.“I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried,” the senator said in a statement. In July, McCain made a dramatic return to Washington from Arizona after a brain cancer diagnosis to become one of three Republican senators who helped sink their party’s earlier bid to replace Obamacare. Now, rebels within the party ranks appear set to torpedo what may be the party’s last chance to make good on a longstanding Republican goal, and a signature pledge of the president. With both McCain and the conservative Rand Paul opposed, it would take just one more Republican defector to prevent the bill’s passage before a deadline of 30 September, the end of the fiscal year. At least two party moderates-Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski-are known to have serious reservations. The bill’s collapse would be yet another blow to the president and the Republican leadership, who have been unable to move forward on repealing Obamacare despite controlling Congress and the White House. In coming out against the latest bill, McCain criticized the fact that it had bypassed regular Senate order, and noted that it would not be fully reviewed by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) before the end of the month. The senator said he could not “support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will effect insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it.”Trump targets defectors -The bill’s supporters might be eager to avoid a CBO score. In July, the non-partisan body projected that the ranks of the uninsured would grow by 23 million Americans, and premiums would rise 20 per cent annually, over the next decade if the previous Obamacare repeal bill became law.The White House scrambled earlier this week to win over Republicans skeptical of Graham-Cassidy, with Trump himself phoning lawmakers and state governors seeking to tilt the scales in favor of the bill. And Trump made his position on Republican defectors clear on Friday, writing on Twitter that those who vote against Graham-Cassidy “will forever…. be known as ‘the Republican who saved Obamacare.’”While Republicans have pledged to repeal the Obama-era health care reforms, they have struggled to secure enough support to do so amid fears that proposed alternatives would dramatically increase the number of Americans without health insurance. The American Medical Association has issued scathing criticism of the latest repeal effort, warning it “would result in millions of Americans losing their health insurance coverage, destabilize health insurance markets, and decrease access to affordable coverage and care.”McCain’s rejection of the latest Obamacare replacement bill is yet another slight against the current president, someone he has repeatedly challenged from within the ranks of the Republican Party.Trump, for his part, had mocked McCain’s war hero status as a former prisoner of war in Vietnam as he ran for president, declaring: “I like people who weren’t captured.”

Among the OBC-A category, Sariful Islam of Pandua Sasi Bhusan Saha High School in Hooghly came fifth with 97.2 percent marks. East Midnapore which has clinched the top spot in the Madhyamik examination in terms of successful candidates came up with the highest success rate of 91.98 percent. Despite ranking sixth in terms of success rate, Hooghly secured the highest share of 13 merit list holders. The newly created district of Kalimpong followed next with 91.69 percent of students passing the examination. Kolkata ranked fifth registering a pass percentage of 87.68 which is slightly higher than last year’s 87.37. Nine students from the city made it to the merit list. The overall success rate in Higher Secondary examination dipped slightly from 84.20 to 83.75 percent this year. In terms of success rate, boys performed better than girls with the pass percentage slightly increasing from 85.15 to 85.22 percent this year. A total of 21 girls have featured in the top-10 merit list. The success rate for girls slightly decreased from 83.26 to 82.46 percent this year. However, girls have remained almost at par with boys in securing ‘O’ Grade (90-100) with 2,655 boys and 2,593 girls scoring it. A total of 8,04,895 candidates appeared for the exams that were held between March 27 and April 11. The total number of successful candidates have been 6,63,516. The exams registered participation of 53 percent girls which is six percent higher than last year.
